Lost Sea
In March we took our farthest trip this year. We went to the Lost Sea Adventure Cave
in Sweetwater, TN. Along the way we stopped at Worlds Fair Park in Knoxville
to kill some time. In 1982 the worlds fair was held at that location. We finally got to our destination at about 5:30 that night. Our guide took us for a tour
which ended at the america's largest underground lake. Next the guide to us on some
optional tours. They included Bubblegum, the Eye of the Needle and the Meat Grinder.
To the surprise of the scouts and ourselves, the adults managed even the most challenging
excursion. Click

Aviation Campout
The big event for Febuary was to visit the
Carolina Aviation Museum
and Cabarrus Regional Airport. The event was in support of the Aviation Merit
Badge. The aviation museum is on the grounds of Charlotte Douglas Airport
and contains a wide variety of aircrafts, plus military and aviation-oriented memorabilia.
The regional airport is a private airport. The troop enjoyed seeing the airplanes
of local celebrities. Click

Virginia
Creeper Trail
We scheduled this event one week after the most bike
rental shops had closed. Fortunately we had excellent
weather. Our only issue was a their was a little mud
on the trail. The Virginia Creeper Trail was a old
railroad track down the mountains. The eighteen mile
journey is an easy ride with most of journey being downhill. Click

Creeper Trail. |

Younger scouts hiked about six miles to our camp site.
Assistant scoutmaster Mike set up camp for us. Older
scouts continued on for two more days with all their gear.
These brave scouts along with our Scoutmaster, ASM Kevin and
ASM Buddy backpacked the trail for a total of twenty one
miles. Click

This year summer camp was at Camp Barnhardt. Our
local camp has offers 50 merit badges and an excellent first

scouts attended and each choose a program that fit their
needs. We participated in most of the activities
including the Iron Clad Chef, Scout Master Jousting Contest
and a Catapult Contest. Click

Dixie Fellowship
Dixie is an Order of the Arrow annual event that a few of
our members had a chance to participate in. Dixie is
the BIGGEST conclave in the nation. All of the Lodges from
the SR-5 area get together and have a big well get-together
and it is A LOT of fun. Each lodge gets to host it every
year and it so happens we are hosting Dixie out here in NC
at Camp John J. Barnhardt in the year 2012. Next year Dixie
will be a little closer hosted by Skyuka lodge in Fort Mill,
SC. This year it was out in Savannah Georgia hosted by Tomo
Chi-Chi lodge and I will tell you the biggest thing out
there is PATCH TRADING!!! You will have to experience Dixie
yourself to know what I am talking about. Our theme was
Hippie Dixie as you can tell in the pictures but there were
many others out there from Vikings to football to Mario and
to Scottish themes and there were many cool patches out
there to get. Well I hope I see you next year in Fort Mill. Click

Spring Camporee
The theme for the Spring Camporee was Bedrock Battle.
Each boy was given a list of supplies that the were supposed
to bring. Our boys decided to specialize and bring all
the softballs or ropes etc. The troop brought lashing poles
and wheels. Still we were very concerned on how
camporee would pull this off. The boys across several
troops were split into a patrol and they were given the task
to build a catapult. The catapult shot targets for
accuracy, had to go threw an obstacle course then fired at
each other in battle. The winner was the last one
eliminated by three hits. Finally at the camp fire new
members were called out to join the Order of the Arrow. Click

Camp Cabarrus Work Day
Camp Cabarrus has needed a
lot of work since they cleared a lot of infected trees last
year. Debris was scattered everywhere and several camp
sites were unusable. We took the opportunity to claim a new
campsite and started cleaning and clearing it. Troop
38 gets first dibs on this site at district events held at
Camp Cabarrus. It is on the right, behind the shelter
as you enter camp. The boys did a great job turning
the site around. Click
